Hair Loss

Everyone loses hair. It is normal to shed about 50-100 hairs every day.

However, if you see bald patches or lots of thinning, you may be experiencing true hair loss. There are many causes of hair loss  including:

 • illness
 • diet
 • medication
 • childbirth
 • genetics
 • hair care practices.

Here is a brief description of the most common types of hairloss:

  • Hereditary thinning or baldness (also called androgenetic alopecia): This is the most common cause of hair loss, which affects both men and women.  About 80 million people in the United States have this type of hereditary thinning or  baldness. When men have hereditary hair loss, they often experience the associated receding hairline. Many men may also see baldness patches, especially on the top of the head.  Women, on the other hand, tend to keep their hairline. Instead, they see noticeably thinning hair. The first sign of hair loss for many women is a  widening part.

  • Alopecia Areata: Researchers believe that this is an autoimmune disease, meaning the body attacks itself. In this case, the body attacks its own hair. This causes smooth, round patches  of hair loss on the scalp and other areas of the body including the eyebrows and other areas that normally have hair.

  • Hairstyles and Products: Years of wearing hair in a style that tightly pulls on the hair such as a ponytail, cornrows, or braids  can cause a mechanical type of hair loss known as traction alopecia. Frequent use of chemicals, hot tools, hair clips and pins may also lead to breakage.

Depending on the cause, hairloss can be 100% curable with methods including:

        • Oral Medication

        • Topical Medication Injections
